Oil Painting Project: Paint an Orange Butterfly with Orange Flowers

· July 21, 2020

Paint what you see!

I remember when I first started painting.  It was like my eyes were suddenly opened to color.  When I drove down the street I saw all the shades of green in the trees and its contrast to the grass.  It was then that I really began to study color.  Even now, I’ll study the trees and how light plays on their colors, how the tops of the trees will glow orange from the surprise while the rest of the tree remains in the dark.

Color is what drew me to this painting and subject.  Spring brings life and such amazing colors.  Just look at all the oranges in this painting!

You can paint this too.  From the comfort of your home, you can watch the video, pause it, and paint it.  Then share you with our positive painter community.  I can’t wait to see what you paint! Stop and paint the flowers.

In this course, you’ll practice:

  • all the various ways to make orange
  • how to use the colors to create the illusion of a three-dimensional object using shadings,
  • all while staying in the orange family (an analogous painting)
  • create illusion of movement with soft and hard edges

Watch the completion of this painting in 3 minutes or less.
