Oil Painting Project: How to Paint Cat Eyes

· August 21, 2020

Eyes are the window to the soul, therefore they warrant so much more time than any other part of people or animals. I spend a great deal of time and effort to get the eyes just right and I have to tell you, the eyes are my favorite part of any painting. I love painting each layer until it achieves a realistic and captivating stare.

As a result, I’ve decided the upcoming weekly oil painting projects will be focusing on painting cat’s eyes. We are focusing on layering and glazing oil paint to create a glass-like look with great depth. In addition, you’ll practice the following:

  • Use of 3 mediums:
    • Galkyd
    • Neo Megilp
    • Solvent-Free Gel
  • practice soft edges and hard edges to create three-dimensional objects even within the eyes
  • evaluate how light carries through the eyes.
