Oil Painting Project: Orange Butterfly with Orange Flowers

How to paint an orange butterfly

I remember when I first started painting.  It was like my eyes were suddenly opened to color.  When I drove down the street I suddenly saw all the shades of green in the trees and its contrast to the grass.  It was then that I really began to study color.

Even now, I’ll sit on the back porch and study the trees, how the tops of the trees will glow orange from the surprise while the rest of the tree remains in the dark.  Color is amazing!

Color is what drew me to this painting and subject.  Spring brings life and such amazing colors.  Just look at all the oranges in this painting.
